The original Rollei 35, a compact 35mm viewfinder camera, made its debut in 1966 and was produced until 1974. Recognized as one of the world's smallest 35mm cameras, it stood out for its incredibly compact design that included a collapsible lens that retracted into the body of the camera when not in use. The Rollei 35 features manual aperture and shutter speed selection, however it lacks a rangefinder for focusing, so all focusing must be estimated manually via the distance scale on the lens.
This camera also features a battery-powered CdS light meter, coupled to shutter and aperture controls and reads via a small window atop the camera. As the light meter is always on, it's recommended to store the camera in a case or bag to prolong battery life. Note that due to the original battery being a mercury cell, Rollei 35 cameras often need to be recalibrated for modern battery voltage.
